Dog Attends Mass Every Day Where Owner’s Funeral Was Held, Waiting For Her To Return

Unless it’s a service dog, it’s not typical to see a dog in church – let alone seeing a dog attend mass every day on its own. But Tommy is far from your normal dog. This 7-year-old German Shepherd has been attending mass every day in the small town of San Donaci which is near Brindisi, Italy. He’s become very well-known to churchgoers since he goes every day and sits quietly near the altar throughout the entire service. But the reason that he goes to mass every day is absolutely heart-breaking.

You see, Tommy was owned by 57-year-old Maria Margherita Lochi, who rescued him as a puppy after he was abandoned in some fields near her home. The two of them formed a bond steeped in love, loyalty, and friendship.

Ms. Lochi passed away a few months back, and Tommy goes to church to wait for her, since the last time he saw her was at the church during her funeral service. Because of that, he goes to the church every day when the morning mass bells ring, then he sits through the entire service before leaving.

By now, you probably have tears in your eyes – as do I. But, there is a bit of a happy ending to this. Tommy has been adopted by the entire village. They know how much he meant to Ms. Lochi, so they have rallied around him, making sure he’s well taken care of and fed. We really don’t deserve dogs, they are too good and loyal. Hopefully, Tommy’s broken heart will heal soon.
